1. What Is SNAP in California (CalFresh)? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CalFresh is the largest food assistance program in California. It is California\u2019s version of the federal SNAP program, which helps low-income individuals and families buy food.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CalFresh is managed at the state and county levels in California. In the federal fiscal year 2024, CalFresh supported 1 in 7<\/a> California residents, and more than half of the participants came from families with children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the program, eligible households receive monthly benefits<\/strong> that can be used to purchase groceries at many stores (Walmart<\/a>, Aldi, Trader Joe\u2019s, Costco, etc.) and farmers markets that accept EBT cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. How to Qualify for SNAP in California <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You must meet specific eligibility rules related to income, household size, and other factors to qualify for CalFresh.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your income must be at or below a certain limit based on your household size.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CalFresh checks both gross income (total income before taxes or deductions) and net income (what\u2019s left after certain expenses are subtracted). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most cases, your household income must be at or below 200% <\/strong>of the federal poverty level (FPL) to qualify for CalFresh. If your income is above the limit, you may still qualify if someone in your household is elderly or has a disability.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
